I feel like I'm never really sure who's side "the media" is on... You know what I mean? There are a couple sections I see on the news, and some are fine but others... I feel are definitely more skewed. Everyone's got the weather, ya gotta know that XD And there is local news and news from around the country and once in a while, the world. There is also the funny bits (or maybe thats just local stations, I feel like I don't see much humour on CNN and stuff, but rarely do I watch that) and the parts that seem to redeem all the downer stories.
My main, problem, I guess with media is that it shows us what it wants to show us. I think there are some reporters that do a good job of "getting the whole story" or "being neutral" but honestly I think a lot of it is biased but its disguising itself as not. I know there are some stations that are more liberal and more conservative and stuff, but not one is perfect.
The thing that annoys me most about mass media (and if you hadn't gathered, I'm talking mostly about tv news and stuff) is the headlines. The headlines annoy me a lot because they just put all the trigger words in there that get people's attention, even if it doesn't truly reflect the situation. I'm sure everyone in America knows about the mass shooting in Orlando now, and this morning, also in Orlando, a toddler was evidently dragged into a lake by an alligator at Disney World. Both, very horrific and sad, sad, events. Death is never to be taken lightly, especially when its murder, and especially when children are involved. But the headlines for these events were so in your face and all caps that they just annoyed me. The title hypes up the incident so much that sometimes you hear the story and you're just like "really? I'm so annoyed by your headline I can't focus on the story and how sad it actually is".
I'm gonna jump around just a bit, but I saw The Jungle Book yesterday, and it got me thinking, that way back when, when we didn't have the technological luxuries that we have now, I don't think that someone being dragged (and killed, probably killed and eaten, I mean, lets be realistic ((and now everyone thinks i'm being too harsh now)) its an alligator) into a lake by an alligator would have been such a... whats the word I'm looking for? It wouldn't have been as surprising as someone just killing a whole bunch of people. Cause in the Jungle Book, its a kids story, obv, but it makes you realize, that animals are scary! Especially the big ones with giant teeth and claws! And they gotta eat something. It was probably more often that someone lost their life to an animal than another human being. (And I'm talking, like way back! Waaaaay back!) I dunno, just a thought. Not diminishing the loss of life either way, but its interesting how we get used to things like shootings but we're really surprised when animals attack humans.
Anyway, going back to where I started, the headlines for these events are always so eye catching. The one for the shooting that i first saw was "WORST MASS SHOOTING IN US HISTORY". Then the next headline had something to do with "Gay Night Club" and you know that they are just trying to trigger people by categorizing this. People are people! And People died, you don't need to be bringing all that into this right now news. And the headline for the alligator thing was "TRAGEDY AT DISNEY WORLD", and my first thought was "another shooting". But then you listen and its an alligator. -_- Like, I dunno. the headlines just bother me because all the do is alarm you and try to get you to be sad and/or angry, and it just bothers me. They also make it seem like there is literally no other news going on around the entire world. Like seriously? People, Christians are being persecuted and driven out of their homes and down right murdered in the Middle East and in other areas by (should I say it? I will) Isis militants, and do we ever hear about that? No. We hear what they want us to hear and its not even like, probably a tenth of what is really going on. Ugh.
Can you tell I'm annoyed? Cause I am. I guess what I'm trying to say in all of this is, you just gotta be careful with what people say, I guess. And you gotta get your news from people you trust. And I'd say get your news from more than one place so you can get different perspectives too.
It's a difficult world out there, we gotta navigate a lot of things! Luckily, those of us that have Christ, don't have to do it alone. And I pray every day for guidance and for grace and to keep me safe. Although, with all these headlines of death, it just makes you think that when its your time, its your time. However, there is always a bright side :) There are always survivors, I think God makes sure to not let the bad people get away with everything ya know. And in the end, the bad people will be punished if the don't repent.
Well! I think that's it for now. Bit of an abrupt ending but i gotta finish getting ready, AH!! XD
Sm hope you have a great day! God Bless and dont worry :)
